Motiva Enterprises LLC reported equipment failure Friday at its refinery in Convent, La., according to a government filing made public Saturday.

An unspecified unit outage at the 235,000 barrel-a-day refinery caused emissions of sulfur dioxide, Motiva said in its filing with the National Response Center.

Motiva is a joint venture of Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Saudi Arabian Oil Co., or Saudi Aramco.
