Shares of FirstSolar Energy Inc. jumped as much as 12% at the open Friday, topping percentage gainers in the S&P 500 . FirstSolar said it would resume work on a major 230-megawatt solar power station for Los Angeles County after resolving certification issues that had suspended the project. Independent refiner Vaelro Energy Corp. was the top gainer in the oil sector, benefiting from Thursday's steep drop in crude-oil prices. The NYSE Arca Oil Index was up 0.5% and the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index was ahead 0.7%, both tracking a modest rebound in the broader equities market following Thursday's steep sell-off. The Philadelhpia Oil Service Sector Index was up 0.3%.
