High hopes for coordinated action in Europe Friday helped boost the Dow Jones Industrial Average over 13,000 -- its first move above that mark, intraday, since May 8. The blue-chip index was recently up 113 points, or 0.9%, at 13,001, after reaching an intraday high of 13,003.46. The S&P 500 was up 15 points, or 1.1%, to 1,375. The Nasdaq Composite rose 37 points, or 1.3%, to 2,931. Spurring the gains, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande said they are committed to keeping the euro area together, a day after similar euro-supporting comments from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi.
