Techs In The Red, As TI, Chips Slip

The tech sector kicked off the week in the red on Monday, weighed down by declining shares of Texas Instruments which slipped 1.7% after the chipmaker was downgraded by FBR Capital to underperform from market perform. In a note, analyst Craig Berger argued that the company's third-quarter revenue guidance "could be worse than the Street." Shares of Cisco Systems , Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. also declined, joining the worst performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average [s; djia] which lost more than 50 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index slid a fraction to 2,899, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index shed more than 1%. The sector got a lift from gains in shares of Apple Inc. and EMC Corp. .
